A Visual Imprint of Moving Air

Imagine being able to visualize sound as it bounced through a movie or performance theater. What would it look like? What is the best place to sit in a theatre for an auditory experience? Franz Max Osswald studied this long ago in 1930, and took photos of the movement of sound as it moved through performance spaces. Awesome.

Osswald’s research of sound waves through architecture is discussed, as well as much more in the article A Visual Imprint of Moving Air by Sabine Von Fischer.

…architectural sound photography from the 1920s and 1930s is a remarkable and overlooked reference for the noise maps and climate registers circulated currently.

Um, yes! I never thought about photos of sound moving through space to understand the theatre experience. Check out Osswald’s tests for different architectural elements to help sound move through the space:

Fluting, folding, triple pocket moldings, cannelures, cavities, and waveforms were built into the walls of Osswald’s sectional models of round, elliptical, rectangular, and potato-shaped spaces.

Choosing wiring kits for Budget DIY CNC/ 3D Printer

There really are three options when you are choosing how to wire a DIY 3D printer:

  • Buy a 3d printer wiring harness / kit.
  • Assemble the wiring kit and connectors yourself.
  • Re-use salvaged wiring.

Buying a pre-made wiring harness is the easiest option and increases your confidence in your build.

You are saved from the worry about the solder join on the second pin for the heater bed shorting out when you walk away from your Franken-printer.

So, let’s talk about what a good wiring harness includes, and give you some examples. Then, I’ll go into options on how to wire your own connectors and re-using salvaged wiring.

Pre-Made Wiring Harnesses

Congrats! If you are reading this, I’ll bet you have a 3d/cnc controller board in your online cart somewhere. This is the start of an exciting journey!

The great thing about buying a pre-made wiring harness is that you don’t have to learn about the difference between JST and DuPont connectors, which male/female connectors are needed, or how to properly crimp ferrules that are smaller than most humans can see (yay!).

How my CliftonStrengths changed – 2017

For those unfamiliar with the Clifton StrengthsFinder book, it is the result of researching high-performing individuals to see what helped them succeed. I thought it was interesting that the researchers assumed there would be a set of common strengths among all the high performers. Instead, each high performer had their own combination of strengths and weaknesses. The Clifton researchers found those who focused and leaned on their strengths (and minimized their weaknesses) were successful.

I took the Clifton StrengthsQuest long ago and was surprised to find my strengths changed a lot between 2006 and now.

Long ago, I planned to be a pastor and thus inclusion and ‘WOO’ were strengths I used frequently. Now that I’m older, I’m more interested in developing and helping others develop.

Looking at my strengths, it is obvious why I keep asking my friends about their business ideas (input), brainstorming with them (ideation) and then telling them they can do it (activator) and seeing how I can help move it forward (maximizer). Also, I’m less positive than I was long ago- a bit jaded…but I believe in possibility and want to help others move toward it.
