Even more importantly, there is another connector that listens to incoming audio. So, how do you connect a microphone to a smartphone?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bluetooth Microphone\n<\/li>\n<li>USB interface\/data port connector\n<\/li>\n<li>headphone port\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Headphone Port<br \/>\nTo skip all the DIY and low-cost options, here is a great solution to record audio right into your smartphone: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00GXOYHPQ\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=B00GXOYHPQ&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=meanduscharl-20&#038;linkId=IW7DK4KV75ZK3B7O\">Rode smartLav bundle with vampire clip and extension cable<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=meanduscharl-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=B00GXOYHPQ\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/> is about $80 and is a great choice. <\/p>\n<h4>For constrained budgets, use your own mic with an adapter<\/h4>\n<p>To bring a microphone&#8217;s audio through the headphone port, an adapter is needed. A <a href=\"http:\/\/hints.macworld.com\/article.php?story=20090501144335832\">Camcorder adapters<\/a> have the longer, 4-pin connection into the headphone port that is needed. Over generalizing, think of it like this; the <a href=\"http:\/\/sound.stackexchange.com\/questions\/24509\/what-is-impedance-and-why-do-i-care-when-buying-a-microphone\">lower the impedance, the better the microphone<\/a>. The <a href=\"http:\/\/m.ebay.com\/itm?itemId=221310839351\">$1 Chinese lavalier microphone <\/a> I just bought has 2.2k ohms. Unfortunately, this means part of the low end is impeded and thus lost- the sound seems slightly tinny (<a href=\"http:\/\/nofilmschool.com\/2014\/07\/one-dollar-lavalier-mic-microphone-professional-lav-test\/\">hear\/see the comparison to higher quality microphones<\/a>).  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.speechrecsolutions.com\/assets\/iPad_and_microphones.pdf\">This PDF explains the connections (pin out) in depth<\/a> of you are curious.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a passion for capturing life through memories.
