Creating my own artist community

Austin Kleon suggests artists seek out others for accountability, feedback, critiques and community in his Steal Like An Artist book (buy, view, library). It has been surprisingly hard to find other artists to commiserate with. Most I bump into are either professional or extremely committed to their craft. I imagine joining their community and having a small amount of new art to contribute. On the other end of the spectrum, I meet other artists create even less art than I do.

How do I find other artists with similar work ethic and drive?

Does it matter what kind of production or work ethic other artists have? I’m excited to find something similar to what we had back in the day where artists gathered around a central idea, a creative manifesto and sought to explore it.

How do I find other artists with similar work ethic and drive? My wife was suggesting checking out FaceBook groups. We have at least 10 different Bay Area Artist groups. I’ll report back on how it goes finding an artist community.
