Awakin.org and going live

Artist Ella Luna was featured on an Awakin.org call, discussing Designing a Life Beyond the Crossroads of Should and Must.

Every Saturday, dial into our Awakin Calls from wherever you are — and engage with an inspiring guest speaker.

The idea of a live phone call with a Q&A at the end provides a focal point everyone who wants a present experience can all engage with. Then, the recorded session is live later for those who can’t make it.

A Shared Media Experience

I like the idea of a phone call where many others are listening to the same thing at the same time. When I was ripping through the entire This American Life back catalog with a friend, we considered a listening party to bring others together and share the same experience. It never happened because really, who can hold back listening to a great podcast episode? This is the same experience with binge-watching TV shows, or lovers: you are almost never on the same page (episode-wise or love-wise). One person will always have watched the new episode, or love your more (or less).

Now Streaming Live

I registered the “.stream” domain because I wanted to convey the idea to learningmorenetwork.stream (iTunes) listeners that some of our audio (or video?) podcasts would be recorded live. I like the idea of live, but it scares me. For someone who optimizes load times on my blog over and over, broadcasting LIVE in our Wilson Wonderings podcast (www) with my lovely wife strikes fear in my podcasting heart.

Then again, maybe a Facebook Live stream or a live broadcast would be less stressful. I wouldn’t have to think of pausing and making a note to edit. Ah, that sounds nice.
